Making honey a source of income for communities and a lasting source of support for forest protection: that is the ambition of our CEPF-supported project.
From July 2025 to July 2028, Honey of Madagascar is carrying out a project around the Zahamena–Ankeniheny forest corridor, with financial support from the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF).
At the heart of this initiative, we are developing beekeeping that connects local communities’ income to the preservation of their environment. Honey sales are intended to help fund community forest patrols, whose members watch over the forests and help protect their exceptional biodiversity.
This approach rests on an essential connection: forests provide bees with the resources they need to produce honey; income from honey, in turn, helps protect those forests.
The project also helps communities adopt agroecological and agroforestry practices to strengthen their ability to adapt to climate change. It raises awareness of forest fire prevention and the preservation of the Malagasy honey bee, Apis mellifera unicolor, a valuable pollinator.
By promoting Madagascar’s honey, we aim to give communities the means to earn a living from the forest while protecting it.
Honey of Madagascar employs a diverse team of technicians, engineers, and specialists in various fields,
providing seasonal jobs to hundreds of workers. The company also supports small beekeepers and agricultural
producers by providing technical and financial means to improve their practices and access niche markets worldwide.
In summary, Honey of Madagascar is more than a beekeeping company. It is a key player in sustainable development in Madagascar,
promoting Malagasy excellence while protecting nature and supporting local communities.
